One of Metro Vancouver's busiest SkyTrain stations reopening after 6-week closure. Here's what to know

Metro Vancouver's King George SkyTrain will re-open to commuters on June 9, 2024, following a month-and-a-half of TransLink repairs.

One of Metro Vancouver's busiest SkyTrain stations will open to riders again on Sunday, June 9. 

King George Station on the Expo Line will reopen to commuters following a for repairs. TransLink says the upgrades allow the station to function as "efficiently and safely as possible."

During the closure, the Expo Line temporarily terminated at Surrey Central Station and several bus routes were altered to accommodate commuters. 

TransLink closed the station on April 27 for "" including replacing two turnouts, which are mechanical devices that guide trains from one track to another. 

The replaced section of the track had been used since the station opened 30 years ago.

The transit authority also completed multiple infrastructure upgrades in and around King George Station, including:

  • Power rail work
  • Cable installations
  • Elevator and escalator repairs
  • Electrical and lighting upgrades
  • Station cleaning
