A global peer-to-peer car-sharing company has added Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to its map for vehicle rentals.
Turo Canada, a car-sharing platform where locals rent out their cars, started in Richmond as .
They officially launched in the province in 2020 after sorting out insurance and laws with ICBC and the province, then expanded nationwide.
Now, seven years later, Turo is adding YVR and Calgary International Airport as their latest .
Turo hosts can park their vehicles in the YVR parkade, and renters can check in remotely for their reservation and access their chosen vehicle immediately upon leaving the airport.
Customers can even choose extra add-ons like bike racks or child car seats.
Having an airport as a pickup spot for car sharing helps travellers avoid long rental counter lines, according to Cedric Mathieu, senior vice president and head of Turo Canada.
Mathieu told the Richmond News that partnership discussions with the airport have been ongoing for a while.
"It's a pretty important sign that airports ... are adapting to Canadians' changing habits when it comes to transportation and travel," he said, adding that flexibility and convenience have been the main goals for the company.
"I think (airports) recognized that there's a need there and it's also an economic opportunity for them so we're very happy with this partnership."
Turo has vehicle exchange locations in Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia as well as the U.S.A. United Kingdom, Australia and France.
