Teeing off for Chamber golf tournament

Fun networking event scheduled for June 3

Tee time is quickly approaching for networking golfers in the North Shore Credit Union 麻豆社国产Chamber of Commerce golf tournament on Thursday June 3.

Regardless of the fact that the nine-hole tournament had to be moved from the now defunct Garibaldi Springs Golf Resort to the 麻豆社国产Valley Golf and Country Club, tournament chair Nancy Hamilton said the event is going to be better than ever.

With tons of sponsors, door prizes, an auction, a barbecue dinner, a nine hole round of golf and about 144 participants the day is jam-packed with activities and opportunities to mingle and network.

"It's a lot of fun."

The tournament will also include a celebrity caddy auction with mayor Greg Gardner as one of the local famous faces to caddy to the highest bidder.

Since the tournament score is calculated based on the team's best ball at each hole, novice golfers don't have to be shy about their game and can rely on more advanced team members to carry the play if need be.

"It's an event that anyone can play in, you don't have to be an expert golfer because it's best ball," Hamilton said.

After the tournament winds up, participants can visit sponsor tables, mingle at the patio party or browse auction items before the barbecue dinner.

Prizes with a minimum value of $50 will also be given out for the longest drive, closest to the pin and of course, best score. Hamilton said the grand prize hasn't been selected yet, but she's sure the gift will be great.

Anyone interested in playing can grab a remaining spot in the tournament through the 麻豆社国产Chamber of Commerce for $80 plus GST.

"We want to be sold out like we have been in the past and I don't think that's going to be a problem, we're well on our way."

Golfers wishing to zip around the course have to reserve and pay for their own carts by contacting the 麻豆社国产Valley Golf and Country Club.

Registration starts at noon and tee time is scheduled for 2 p.m. Hamilton encourages participants to dress for the weather because the tournament will go on, rain or shine.

Sponsors looking to promote their business can do so at a reduced rate of $150.

"We're trying to get all the members participating, as sponsors and as golfers. Just because you're sponsoring doesn't mean you can't golf," Hamilton added.
