Team 麻豆社国产is on track for another great year according to coach Mike Charuk.
"Training is going good," said the registered massage therapist.
Team 麻豆社国产riders Quinn Moberg, Rob Leigh, Jeremy Pelletier, and Kristan Drygas spent last weekend (May 1 and 2) training at Roberts Creek for the Sunshine Coaster, the first BC Cup race of the season.
On the ferry ride over to the island nutritionist and sport psychologist Ann Yew mentored the riders with information and useful tips.
"We're using all of our assets," Charuk said.
"We had a captive audience of the ferry ride there and back, so we had some mental training on sports psychology and some nutrition."
Charuk said he's trying to introduce the riders to as many experts as possible to diversify their knowledge base.
Moberg, Leigh and Lauren Rosser have been training for two upcoming Canada Cup competitions one in Barrie Ont. on May 22 and 23 and another in Mont Tremblant, Que. on May 30.
"I think we can say we're right on track. We've got some more work to go but I think everyone's good to go."
The team has spent a lot of time working on interval training, which Charuk says should start paying off soon.
" I think with some consistency with that we're going to start improving on times."
Other areas of focus for the team have been starts and pacelining to help increase a rider's efficiency by minimizing draft.
"You can always improve on everything," Charuk added.
Overall, Charuk said meeting the athletes has been enjoyable and support from parents has been instrumental.
Local named new Cycling BC coach
Cycling BC announced 麻豆社国产rider and coach Chad Hendren has joined the Cycling BC team after Dave Hord stepped down to retire.
Hord will focus on rider development and camp support while vacating the head coach position for the 2011 season.
Hendren, a Vancouver native, will work alongside the outgoing head coach to ensure a seamless transition between coaches. Cycling BC said Hendren has already started working on plans for the 2011 and will in the mean time work closely with Richard Wooles.
Hendren moved to Whistler in the early 1990s and received his National Coaching Certification Program certificate eight years ago. He's raced BC Cup and Canada Cup for more than a decade and has worked with Andrew Shandro at summer gravity camps, Richie Schley, Shaums March and the DFX program in Whistler. When Hendren isn't busy cycling he's a professional freeskier in the winter months.
