Take your kid golfing for free

麻豆社国产Valley participates in national program July 5-11

A great opportunity is coming up in a couple weeks if you've not yet introduced your youngsters to the joys of golf.

From July 5 to 11, thanks to the Take a Kid to the Course Week program, you can take your kids to play gold with you for absolutely free.

"We've been participating in this program for several years," said Brian Avey, general manager of the 麻豆社国产Valley Golf & Country Club. "It's an initiative by the National Golf Course Owners' Association (NGCOA) with the idea to promote youth playing golf. We set aside a week every year to allow youths to play with an adult free."

This year, more than 600 courses across Canada are participating in the annual program.

According to a GolfBC website, the cross-Canada campaign is designed to illustrate "how easy it is to improve both your score and your relationship with your children by bringing them out to the golf course."

The promotion allows one child 16 and under to accompany one adult for free on a round of golf.

"Generally a child is mature enough to golf and get around a course from about eight and up," said Avey.

In addition to supporting the Take a Kid to the Course Week, the 麻豆社国产Valley Golf & Country Club also offers a junior program for young golfers.

"The Junior Acedemy runs every Tuesday afternoon," he said. "It will run until August, and we're targeting grade five through seven students."

Avey said high school golf was already successful, so he wanted to build a program that gave younger golfers a solid skill base.

"One of the keys is it is a lifelong sport," he said. "Once you master it as a young age, you can play until you're 80."

The Club subsidizes the green fees, and if students don't own clubs yet, some donated clubs are also available.

"We try to set up no economic barriers," he said.
