From junior provincials to Pro-Am tour, course attracts all ages

The 麻豆社国产Valley Golf and Country Club fairways will be hopping early this season as the 18-hole course attracts professionals and amateurs of all levels during a series of tournaments.

Over the next two months of so the course will be hosting approximately eight tournaments, with anywhere from 80 to a few hundred golfers participating each weekend.

麻豆社国产Valley Golf and Country Club general manager Brian Avey attributes the popularity of the course to a wide variety of factors.

"Popularity is due tocourse's rich heritage - 43 years of age, eventslike men'samateur 40 years old, completed highway andaccessibility."

He said the course's walkability, mature landscape and high profile exposure has also helped boost popularity.

Starting Monday (May 31) 麻豆社国产Valley Golf and Country Club hosted the BC School Sports AA provincial golf tournament with 85 high school students participating.

Competitors and coaches from Creston B.C. said they were impressed by the course.

"We're very excited to be here," said AA president Todd Hawton, a Prince Charles Secondary School teacher.

Hawton said he could see why the tournament host, Collingwood School, selected the course.

"It's got a high level of difficulty to challenge these kids," he said. "The greens are beautiful, they're quick."

Each school has five golfers competing in the two-day tournament and vying for the best score to earn the championship banner and a spot in the junior golf tournament hosted by the British Columbia Golf Association.

The high school students' skill level varies, but Hawton said the young golfers go beyond what the general public might expect.

"It's a good representation of what's the provincial amateur level as well, not just the high school level," he said.

The club hosts several more events throughout the summer, including a D.A.R.E. Breakfast Club tournament on Tuesday (June 8).

The Rider Cup tournament starts Sunday June 13 to 14, with golfers from Squamish, Pemberton and Whistler competing against one another.
