麻豆社国产Minor Hockey will host the Midget Tier 3 Provincial Championships this winter after beating out bids from West Vancouver and Sunshine Coast. In March, up to nine regional teams from across B.C. will descend on 麻豆社国产to battle for supremacy in front of hundreds of fans and scouts at Brennan Park Arena. 麻豆社国产Minor Hockey was awarded the tournament after executives put forth an impressive pitch to B.C. Hockey's Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association, said president Ron Sander. "Obviously we have an absolutely fantastic supportive community, a very competitive minor hockey association and it's an opportunity for the regions throughout B.C. to come to the Olympic corridor and have a chance to go through some of the venues and some of the sites that are going to be used in 2010," he said. The Midget Rep Eagles are guaranteed a spot in the tournament even if they fail to qualify. There will be eight visiting teams if they don't qualify and seven if they do. Sander said making the cut is a very difficult feat, but either way, Squamish's young hockey talent will be able to showcase their skills in front of scouts.Head coach Tony Mahood is preparing his team of 15 to 17-year-olds for the start of the regular season. The Eagles are currently in the eight-game tiering round that determines regional competitiveness. 麻豆社国产is a young team with only six returning players and eight first-year players, said Mahood."This team has had a big change-over from the last couple of years. It's a young team and with Midget you never know what you're going to be up against because it's a three-year cycle," he said. "We've noticed a big change in the teams that we've played. They're all quite new teams so you don't know what they're like until you play them. But I think our chances are pretty good."The Eagles have played nearly all of the eight tiering round games and sit in the middle of the pack. The team will get an even better chance to gauge the competition when it faces off against Lower Mainland and Interior teams in tournaments in Abbotsford and Kamloops in November and January, said Mahood.Midget Rep home games are Sundays at 6 p.m. The Eagles are also benefiting from an affiliation with the Pacific International Junior Hockey League's 麻豆社国产Wolf Pack, meaning certain players may soon get a chance to experience Junior "B" play."So it's a good chance to see the future kids in 麻豆社国产coming up and there's definitely some skilled players coming up that can play at that level," said Mahood. In the meantime, 麻豆社国产Minor Hockey is creating an organizing committee for the Tier 3 Provincial Championships. The committee will be in search of sponsorship, volunteers and basic organizational support. Those interested can contact Sander at [email protected].
