Local hockey player Jamie Jacquard-Sowa, 17, a member of Team BC, almost took home a gold medal at the Under 18 National Championships in Salmon Arm last weekend.

The team finished the championship with a bronze medal. On Jan. 26, the B.C. team defeated Team Atlantic 4-2, and went on to beat team Manitoba the following day.

The third game was Jan. 28 against Team Ontario Red and the B.C. team lost 7-1 in a hard fought game. Even with the loss it went into the semi-final round.

On Jan. 29, B.C. played Quebec in the gold medal game, but fell just short of winning. B.C. went on to defeat Team Alberta 4-0 in the bronze medal game on Jan. 30.

Team Ontario Red won the gold medal when they defeated Team Quebec 5-0.

Names change in men's soccer

The teams aren't changing but the names have in the Sea to Sky Hotel / G&T Pool & Spa Men's Soccer League. Carney's 35 is now Lions Gate Ink & Laser. The team, made up of players over the age of 35, sits in last place in the league.

Inter United has also changed monikers. The team is now called Ocean Port United and is tied for second place in the league with 25 points.
