Hometown teams show visitors how to play ball during the annual 麻豆社国产Slo Pitch Association (SSPA) May long weekend (May 22 to 24) tournament.
With nearly 40 teams duking it out on Brennan Park diamonds and Hendrickson Field, eight of the two dozen local teams vying for top spot earned podium finishes.
SSPA president Dave Southam was pleased with the tournament turnout.
"It was great to see our local teams battling it out," he said. "We represented very well and it just shows the calibre of the teams we do have in Squamish. We can compete against some very qualified teams."
The local Predators slo pitch team battled it out with hometown Garibaldi Tire Irons to win the A Division cup the at Brennan Park field. Another 麻豆社国产team, the Hammers finished in third place allowing 麻豆社国产teams to sweep the A Division podium.
"That was great to have the local teams [in the finals] because we had some pretty competitive out of town teams."
Port Coquitlam team Cheap and Easy beat Whistler's Soul Crush team for a first place finish in the B Division, while 麻豆社国产Rippers finished in third.
The local Eagles team earned a top spot placement in the C Division, while North Vancouver's Bats out of Hell won a second place and the Mount Currie Go Getters finished in third.
North Vancouver team The Fun Bobbys earned a first place finish against the Britannia Beach Bears in the D Division, while the local team Alta Lake Lightning nabbed a third place finish.
Hometown team Gunshow took top spot in the E Division edging out a half local team called Camel Toeing who finished in second and Squamish's Hunters Automotive that wrapped the tournament up in third place.
Collectively the podium finishers walked away with cash prizes that totalled about $5,200. Southam said the remaining proceeds would be used by the SSPA to pay off the loan on the second diamond at the Hendrickson site.
"We have one payment left to finish Hendrickson [field number] two and then we'll start building towards having another diamond down there."
Southam said the entire tournament wouldn't of been possible with the dedication and support of many SSPA volunteers including Scott Brickell, Daryl McCullough, Lisa Brickell, Diane DeCook and Michelle Fairhurst, just to name a few.
"Great support from the [SSPA] executive, that's for sure."
