Riders saddle up for horse show

Second 麻豆社国产Valley Equestrian Association event of the season held Sunday (July 11)

Following a strong attendance at the first show of the season, the second 2010 麻豆社国产Valley Equestrian Association horse show will be underway starting at 9 a.m. on Sunday (July 11.)

SVEA event co-ordinator Kristy Pakstas said riders of all styles and skill levels from North Vancouver to Pemberton are saddling up for the skills show of the season because of the addition of competition divisions.

"There were lots more people [at the 2010 season opener] and everyone was really happy we added the dressage component - which in turn attracted a lot more riders to the area."

Dressage tests kick off the event, followed by a full day of hunter and jumper classes.

A new point system has also been introduced into the 2010 season, which rewards riders who compete within the same categories all season long.

Show participants have a chance to win ribbons, points and a slew of prizes ranging from gift certificates to horse gear or cash prizes. Something SVEA riders haven't had the opportunity to do in the past.

The family-friendly event is free of charge and suitable for audience members of all ages. A barbecue lunch and show programs will be available for purchase. Dogs are permitted on the grounds but they must be leased at all times.

The show will take place at the equestrian grounds located off Loggers Lane north of Finch Avenue and south of Brennan Park Recreation Centre.
