The whippets are ready to run and will be arriving in 麻豆社国产for a weekend of fast-paced action starting Friday, Aug. 27.
The North American Whippet Racing Association (NAWRA) and the National Oval Track Racing Association (NOTRA) bring over 100 dogs to race at Brennan Park throughout the weekend.
It's the third time national competition is held in Squamish, which is a testament to the quality of the course, among the best-maintained grass on the circuit, according to organizer Penny Wilmot.
"The people participating just love coming here," Wilmot said.
Locals and whippet enthusiasts can get a good look at the sleek animals at 1 p.m. Friday, when a "fun match" dog show will see Barbara Barclay - a well-known whippet enthusiast from Abbotsford -will judge the dogs based on their appearance.
Then take a look at what they can do during NAWRA races on the first day of true competition Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m. when 200-yard, straight-line dashes will see six dogs race at a time.
On Sunday, NOTRA takes over Brennan Park beginning at 8:30 a.m. when the dogs take to the 300-yard oval course in packs of five.
The public is encouraged to attend the free events, but is asked to leave pet dogs at home to avoid potential mishaps.
