Multisport race cancelled due to lack of participants

Future of race uncertain, says race director

Endurance athletes will have to wait until next year - or longer - for the 麻豆社国产XTC multi-sport race to take place because the 2010 event has been cancelled.

Race director and XTC Canada owner Teri Taylor said this year's race was cancelled due to low participant registration.

"It went really well last yearBut a lot of people emailed us and said 'Oh I can't make it because of the date,'" said Taylor.

"We ended up cancelling it due to the threat of losing a lot of money."

Taylor said cancelling the lake swimming, mountain biking and trail running event ended up costing her a bit of cash but not as much as XTC could have lost if the race went on with only 60 participants, only half of the 120 participants the 2009 race had.

Taylor explained one of the event venues, Alice Lake, only allows two events a month, limiting the availability of suitable lake swimming weekends and this year's selection of June 26 just didn't cut it with racers.

"We're really limited in terms of what we could do in the area as far as dates with Alice LakeIt's pretty much you can't get anything in July or August."

Once XTC Canada refunds all of the registered participants for the 2010 race, Taylor said she and the other organizers would discuss the future of the race in 2011.

"We haven't even had a chance to sit down and talk about what we're going to do for 2011. Right now it's a question mark."

Taylor expressed disappointment with the cancellation of the event since it has continued to grown in popularity over the last seven years.

"It's disappointing to have to cancel something that we we've been working so hard over the years."

Although she would like to see 麻豆社国产XTC back on the calendar for 2011, she isn't willing to lose money on the event.

"It would be nice to see it continue but I also don't want to take another hit for another year."
