The 麻豆社国产Wolf Pack salvaged two points against the struggling Mission Icebreakers in an exciting overtime victory that had fans howling at Brennan Park Arena on Saturday (Oct. 25) night. With just over a minute and a half remaining in the four-on-four overtime period, Tyler Billon and Richard Batenburg sent Joshua Schaubroeck on a break. The Mission defender giving chase hauled him down in what surely would have been a penalty, but that didn't stop Schaubroeck from putting the puck through goalie Michael McGrath's five-hole while sliding on his stomach. The Wolf Pack bench cleared in celebration as they conquered their first overtime experience."To be honest, I was watching the ref to see if he was going to put his hand up [for a penalty]," said head coach and general manager Matt Samson. "I can't believe he got the shot off and got enough on it and found a hole."In a rare display of offensive dominance, 麻豆社国产outshot Mission 40-31. They were consistent in pressuring with a strong forecheck and concentrated on keeping the attack simple by getting the puck to the net and creating opportunities."We spent more time in their end than we normally do and that, in turn, creates chances. We got more point shots and overall putting the puck on net. Of all our goals we really didn't have a pretty goal except the last one," said Samson, adding that the new forward line combination of Ross Pattison, Tadz Brown and Nicholas Johnston was very sharp. The line combined for four goals, with Pattison earning first star honours with two goals and an assist. Meanwhile, Brown earned a goal and an assist and Johnston contributed two helpers.Pattison hopes the line can continue its scoring streak but was disappointed the team was forced into overtime by the team with the worst record in the Pacific International Junior Hockey League (PIJHL)."Mission isn't really a team we should be in overtime with but it's a win, we have to take it as it is and move forward," said Pattison, adding that the Wolf Pack handled their first overtime well. "Going into overtime you have to make sure that you're staying mentally focused and we were talking about getting the pucks to the net. "With four-on-four there's a lot more room so you have to be moving your feet and creating space for each other getting scoring chances."The coaching staff decided to keep a few starters in their suits and ties for the Mission game after poor performances in a 6-1 loss against the Pilots in Abbotsford the previous night (Oct. 24). 麻豆社国产was outshot 49-16 and got down 4-0 in the first period."We didn't have the legs, we didn't have the intensity," said Samson. "It was a very bad game and I was really disappointed." However, the Wolf Pack looks to build on their latest win as they face the Grandview Steelers at Brennan Park on Saturday (Nov. 1). The game starts at 7:15 p.m.The Pack then plays Mission on the road the next day (Nov. 2). 麻豆社国产has a busy week, having battled the Aldergrove Kodiaks on Wednesday (Oct. 29) after press time.
