Despite being tired, disoriented and physically ill, Team 麻豆社国产rider Rob Leigh finished first in the cross-country North Shore Bike Fest race on Saturday (June 5).
Leigh had recently returned from a kayaking trip that left him tired come race day.
"My race wasn't great because I just came back from a kayaking trip and I was really tired, disoriented, I barfed three times and got a flat," he said.
"It was pretty gruesome."
Leigh said he enjoyed the race although he wasn't expecting the LeMans start, requiring participants to run to their bike before setting off on the 27-km course around Mount Seymour and the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve.
"Well it wasn't really a huge race or anything. But it was good. I enjoyed it thoroughly," Leigh said.
"It was pretty interesting."
With a final time of 2:23:14, less than two minutes behind Leigh, fellow Team 麻豆社国产cyclist in the Men 14-19 category, Jereomy Pelletier finished second.
"It was a really fun race. It was hard but everyone was having a blast, no one was ridiculously serious about it."
After the lemans start, the racers had to bike through the North Shore BMX track, something Pelletier said was "weird" and "interesting."
He lost his water bottle less than 10-minutes into the two-hour race so Pelletier is just pleased he finished on the podium.
