Sea to Sky school district youngsters can cycle their way to victory by participating in a few of the upcoming Pedal to the Metal races.
The Test of Metal sponsors the series that started Thursday (May 20) at Garibaldi Elementary School with kids from Grade 3 to 7 pedaling around a grade specific course.
Younger kids race through a shorter one-kilometre course while older kids can cycles as much as three kilometres.
"I think it's a one of a kind thing that goes on for elementary level kids," said race organizer, Lisa Manzini. "It's a great thing."
Pedal to the Medal race winners are determined after the best three race results are tallied for each school team. Ribbons, prizes and T-shirts are given out at an award ceremony during the Test of Metal on Saturday June 19.
Upcoming races will be held on Wednesday May 26, Thursday June 3 and Thursday June 10 at Garibaldi Elementary School.
Anyone school child interested in participating in the Pedal to the Metal series should contact the teacher in charge of the mountain bike program at their school.
