Young novice and accomplished golfers between the ages of 10 and 18 are invited to tour some of the best greens in the corridor at the third annual Sea to Sky Junior Golf Championship in July.

The tournament kicks off with an optional two-ball scramble, where teams of two play best ball at the Chateau Whistler Golf Club on Friday July 23.

"Scrambles are a lot of fun," said tournament director Charlie Maxwell. "It unites the kids and it's a hoot. They just love it."

The championship starts on Monday July 26 with a round at Pemberton's Big Sky Golf Club at 2 p.m. On Tuesday July 27, the golfers make their way to Whistler's Nicklaus North Gold Club for a second round of golf at 2 p.m.

The third and final day on the greens is spent at the 麻豆社国产Valley Golf Club where participants play their last round followed by an award ceremony.

Maxwell said the tournament could give young golfers a chance to really brush up on their skills, both in the game and in life.

"It is time-consuming but I think it's worth it," said the veteran golf pro.

He said golf teaches kids about peer-relations, consistency, responsibility, and honesty.

"You can't cheat at golf because you're only cheating yourself. You can't put down a false number because later on you might have to live up to it and you wouldn't be able to. You learn early to put down the score that you shot, as much as it hurts," said Maxwell who has more than a quarter century of experience teaching golf in the corridor.

Golf also gives youth an opportunity to feel personal success, something that kids don't experience all too often anymore.

"Too many kids don't get to feel the pride in their personal accomplishments."

The three-day tournament can facilitate up to 24 golfers but registration is on a first come first serve basis.

"It's a limited field but we have no trouble filling it," he said.

Registration for the junior golf championship costs $100 per person, or $120 if golfers want to participate in the two-ball scramble at Chateau Whistler. Registration includes green fees for all three (or four) courses, food and drinks at the ninth hole, dinner after each final round and prizes.

Awards will be distributed based on top three handicap free finishers in each age category and over all as well as the lowest net in each category - which is determined by subtracting the handicap from the score.

Parents are invited to attend the tournament, but coaching will not be allowed.

Entry forms are available at the pro shops of the Sea to Sky clubs or via email by request at [email protected].
