A is on its way to 麻豆社国产this April.
The 麻豆社国产Public Library and 麻豆社国产Arts are coming together on April 5 to host a community event celebrating zines and DIY culture.
What is a zine you might ask?
A zine, pronounced “zeen” is a “DIY, low-budget, self-made, small publication, that is not created solely for commercial profit.”
“Zines can amplify underrepresented voices, challenge the cultural mainstream, and take many forms, from personal reflections to comedic storytelling,” reads a 麻豆社国产Public Library press release.
From now until March 17, the library is from local zine-makers interested in having a table at the event to display, discuss, sell, and swap their zines.
The event is open to the public and DIY makers of all levels are welcome to apply.
“Even if you don’t consider yourself a ‘zine-maker,’ you are! Whatever you’re passionate or curious about is content for a zine,” 麻豆社国产Arts executive director, Clea Young said in the release.
“This accessible initiative aims to amplify the diverse voices in our community through art.”
Through this event, the library will also launch its new Zine Collection. A variety of zines across different viewpoints and subject areas will be on display to the public.
“Zines are a versatile and inclusive medium,” Library programs and outreach co-ordinator, Rachel Bergquist said,
“It’s been cool to see a growing zine scene in Squamish, and I hope this project encourages more people to get excited about reading and making zines!”
To build momentum for the Zine Fest and the new collection, the library is hosting two free zine-making workshops during the month of March. Registration is required for both of these events.
The 麻豆社国产 will run from 12 to 3 p.m. on April 5.
