Since last week, the popular steam room at Brennan Park Recreation Centre has been closed.
The District of 麻豆社国产 that it was no longer available for use following a report from a patron who slipped.
"The steam room will, unfortunately, remain closed until a full assessment is complete and the next steps are determined," the municipality's message reads.
District staff confirmed to The 麻豆社国产 that the steam room already had slip-resistant flooring.
The pool and steam room opened in 1992, and the current flooring is original, according to the District.
Vancouver Coastal Health is advising muni staff through the assessment process.
"All efforts are being made to expedite this work given the importance of the steam room to the community," said the District's Rachel Boguski, in an email to The 麻豆社国产.
An assessment of the slip-resistance of the tiled surfaces within the steam room and pool area is planned for Feb. 7, she added.
The results of the assessment will determine appropriate next steps and a re-opening timeline.
District staff estimate 10-15% of pool users also use the steam room and it鈥檚 most used between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.
