Proper permitting in place for large tree felled in Squamish

A large tree on private property in the Garibaldi Estates was taken down last week.

Some in 麻豆社国产have been abuzz over the buzz of chainsaws that took down a large tree in the Garibaldi Estates on Dec. 7.
The District of 麻豆社国产says the large conifer was considered a 鈥漵ignificant tree鈥 under the District's Tree Management Bylaw. 

The age of the tree is unknown. 

So, were proper procedures followed before felling the tree on the corner of Kalodon Road and Diamond Head? 

According to the District, the tree was located on private property, and a permit was required and properly obtained before removal. 

"The intent of the is [to] regulate the removal of trees on all lands within the District, and to require their replacement if and where applicable to help support the District's Tree Density Target," said District spokesperson Rachel Boguski. 

She added that any property owner who is unsure whether a permit is required is encouraged to contact Community Planning at [email protected] or 604-815-5002.

The 麻豆社国产 contacted the owners of the property, who declined to comment further for this story. 

The Chief also reached out to the company contracted to cut down the tree, but have not heard back.
