Arctic outflow descending on Squamish

Wind chill values could go as low at minus-25 tonight.

It's time for a taste of what the rest of Canada experiences during the winter, Squamish.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement and an Arctic outflow warning for Howe Sound on Wednesday morning, noting that wind chill values are expected to drop to between minus-15 and minus-25 this evening. Coastal area temperatures are anticipated to drop between five and 10 degrees lower than seasonal for Wednesday and Thursday before rising on Friday.

"Rising surface pressures over the B.C. interior will continue to drive Arctic air through mainland valleys and inlets this week. Beginning tonight, frigid temperatures and stronger outflow winds are expected," the warning reads.

Residents are encouraged to minimize exposed skin when outdoors by wearing hats, scarves and mittens or gloves while ensuring pets and outdoor animals are sheltered.

Environment Canada will issue updates as they occur.
