The 麻豆社国产Arts Council鈥檚 first film series hits local screens this August.
听The Council鈥檚 Youth at Art Program is offering the "Through the Lens," film series, which aims to showcase different perspectives through the medium of film.
"Youth is a powerful voice, and in response to their answers in the Youth Engagement Survey 2018, we are bringing film, through innovative ways, to our community," reads the arts council press release.
Curators of the film series are writer and editor, Feet Banks; 麻豆社国产Nation filmmaker, Cease Wyss; and Quest University tutor and filmmaker tobias c. van veen.
The schedule is as follows:
*Aug. 9: "Minding the Gap '' at 8:30 p.m. outdoor screening at the Youth Resource Centre.
听"This film won an award at the Sundance Film Festival and explores themes of skateboarding, youth homelessness, and features creative film-making," reads the release.
*Aug. 23, "Your S岣祑x瘫w煤7mesh"at 6:30 at the 麻豆社国产Adventure Centre. Cease Wyss hosts an evening of short Indigenous films.听 There will also be a showing of youth-made films from the 麻豆社国产Arts Council filmmaking camp (open to ages five to 18 from August 12 to the 15)
*Aug. 30 at The Common at 7 p.m. "The Next 150 鈥� Documentary Futurism." Filmmakers tobias c. van Veen and Brishkay Ahmed will be sharing their experience with futurism.
"Most of these movies are from young voices envisioning the future of Canada in the next 150 years," the release states.
