Return of the Gallery Singers

Community

The Vancouver chamber choir, the Gallery Singers, returns to 麻豆社国产Sunday, June 12 with a 3 p.m. performance at St. John the Divine Anglican Church. The St. John's Children's Choir, under the direction of former Gallery singer Tracy Stuchbery, opens the performance.

The Gallery Singers performed at St. John's last year and remembered the warm reception they received. "The place was packed," said choir member Adrian Chantler. "That's why we decided to come back."

The 20-voice chamber choir specializes in early music and has won numerous competitions, including the Tees-side International Eisteddfod, CBC and Kiwanis Choral Festivals. The choir's repertoire ranges from the 16th to the 20th century, but in recent years the focus has moved more to early music, with occasional performances of 19th and 20th century works.

The children's choir, in its third year, is "the pride of St. John's," said Rev. Mike Stuchbery. "We're delighted to be able to share them with the wider community."

Chantler says his choir is also delighted.

"It's always a very nice touch, it's entertaining and informal," he said. "And every child brings at least one person to the audience."
