I听love a good smoothie as much as the next person but once those temps drop below 10 degrees, my Vitamix goes from spinning fruit and almond milk to pureeing soup and creating sauces.听
Because where we live tends to be cold and damp it creates the perfect breeding ground for candida. Candida is a yeast in our guts that lives in all of us and in small amounts isn鈥檛 bad but when allowed to spiral out of control can cause havoc on our body.听
Migraines, allergies, poor digestion, inflammation and more can be the result of wildly out of control candida. It thrives in cold and wet environments, which is why it鈥檚 generally best to treat in the late spring and summer. How do you know if you have candida? Generally, a white coating on your tongue will be a sign as well as brain fog, irritability, and cravings for sugary foods just to name a few symptoms.
As the weather is already cold and damp during the winter the last thing our body needs is more cold and damp. Luckily we have alternatives such as soups, stews, and broths. This way you鈥檙e still able to get your vitamins and minerals, while also ensuring a warmer environment internally. A pinch of cayenne pepper or turmeric in your warmer meals will provide anti-inflammatory powers within. Not to mention, colder drinks like fruit juices and smoothies will inevitably cool us down, forcing our body to work overtime to warm us up and digest it.
If you need the greens, have a small side salad with your meal or round up the kids and make your very own fun, refined sugar-free gummies with a greens powder. In a pot over medium heat, pour in 1.5 cups of juice and five tablespoons of gelatine. Whisk as the liquid begins to heat. You won鈥檛 want to boil this, just lightly steam. Once steam begins to rise from the mixture, add in your greens powder (at least a tablespoon or two) and honey as desired. Whisk until all is dissolved then transfer and fill your moulds. Alternatively, you can pour into a shallow oven dish then place into the fridge or freezer until firm. Once ready, pop them out or slice them up and add to Ziplock bags. Leave in fridge to stay fresh for up to two weeks. They can be left in a Ziplock bag on the counter or in a bag for a few hours (great lunch box snack). Enjoy them for your daily hit of greens and immune-boosting powers.

You will need:
*Gummy moulds, an ice tray or a small oven dish will suffice where you can slice the gummies into squares.听
*Gelatine or beef collagen (I love Great Lakes, Vital Proteins or Organika)
*Greens powder (Found at the new health shop at Nesters Market )
*Orange or pomegranate juice (make your own or grab a bottle made from Nesters)
*A pot
*Raw honey to taste
