Â鶹Éç¹ú²úcommunity potluck dishing up for Multiculturalism Day

A potluck is being held at the Howe Sound Women’s Centre on June 27 in celebration of Multicultural Day.

Hosted by the and , the potluck will be held at the centre located on 38021 Third Ave. from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

“Canadian Multiculturalism Day honours the many cultural communities that help build a strong and vibrant Canadian society,” wrote Marisa Navarro Ros with Â鶹Éç¹ú²úNewcomer Services in an email to The Â鶹Éç¹ú²ú. 

“Take this opportunity to celebrate the cultural diversity that enriches us collectively and reaffirm your commitment to equity, inclusion and mutual respect,” she added.

Â鶹Éç¹ú²úis not the only place that celebrates Multicultural Day, as the federal government hosts .

Last year, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reflected on multiculturalism in a statement.

“Our multiculturalism makes us who we are as Canadians and many cultural communities have a long history of contributing to our country. As Canadians and partners, we acknowledge that First Nations, Inuit and Métis have called these lands home for millennia,” reads part of the statement.

“Last year, the Government of Canada welcomed over 405,000 new permanent residents into the country, the largest number of newcomers to Canada in a single year, surpassing the previous record from 1913,” the statement continued.
