Whistler Off Road Cycling Association to launch new women's enduro race this fall

Female enduro bikers in the Sea to Sky corridor will soon have one more opportunity to stretch their legs as the Whistler Off Road Cycling Association (WORCA) has announced the launch of the Witsend: a women's enduro race scheduled for September 24 and sponsored by Mons Royale.

The inaugural Witsend course will be approximately 20 kilometres in length, featuring a kilometre of elevation gain. The event itself is marketed towards a variety of skill and experience levels.

"An event made for challenge-seeking female mountain bikers out there, but you don’t have to be 'a racer' to get in on the fun," said a WORCA spokesperson in a press release.

The Witsend's origins can be traced back to a group of Lower Mainland schoolteachers: June Tidball, Florence Strachan, Jacquie Pope, Eunice “Kelly” Forster and Betty Gray. It all started when the women purchased a in 1955 on the shores of Alta Lake. 

Following an arduous day on the road from Vancouver to Whistler to reach their new home, the name "Witsend" was born, for the travelling ladies were in fact at their wits' end. 

WORCA’s newest women's enduro race is named in their honour. 

Registration will be capped at 250 riders, with a $100 entry fee for women and an $85 fee for those in the junior category. A percentage from all proceeds will go towards
