Thousands gather in downtown Vancouver for massive rally to support Ukraine (PHOTOS & VIDEO)

The eastbound lanes of West Georgia between Hornby and Granville are blocked

Members of the Vancouver Ukrainian community and anti-war demonstrators have taken to the Vancouver Art Gallery to protest the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.

A Facebook event which advertised the event titled "Stand with Ukraine against Russian Invasion" expressed the urgent need for support and a show of solidarity.

"People are losing their homes, savings, assets, and most importantly - their lives," the page states. "We need to make it clear to every politician in the world, whether it's a world leader or a city a clerk, that WAR IS UNACCEPTABLE."

In light of the protests, the Vancouver Police Department has warned drivers coming to the downtown core to take alternate routes to avoid significant traffic delays.

"We will have extra officers working to mitigate the disruption. Please plan alternate routes if possible," the VPD wrote on social media. In a later post the VPD stated the eastbound lanes of West Georgia between Hornby and Granville are blocked due to a demonstration.

Here is what the scene at the art gallery looks like.
