No other woman at Silver Star Mountain Resort this past Sunday was faster than Sophi Lawrence, who claimed victory in the Canada Cup women's age 17-18 race in a time of three minutes, 16.88 seconds.
"Stoked to take the provincial champ title and be fastest woman on course at Silver Star this weekend!" Lawrence said on her Instagram account after the fact. "As always, biggest thanks to the [Instinct Development] crew and the rest of girl squad!"
Lawrence edged out runner-up Natasha Miller from Coquitlam (3:18.95), while Rebecca Beaton completed the podium in third (3:29.85). For Beaton, this latest result is another feather in her cap after she helped Pemberton High School (PSS) to this spring.
Anthony Shelly also rode to gold this weekend in the men's age 15-16 event (2:47.42). The youngster hasn't lost in quite some time, coming off on the local Phat Wednesdays circuit. Silver went to American Luke Mallen (2:50.34) and Nanaimo's Ryder Wilson earned bronze (2:52.46).

A number of other Sea to Sky athletes distinguished themselves in Canada Cup action. clocked in for second in the women's 15-16 race (3:24.20) and wound up third (3:38.73), with both contestants trailing winner Tayte Proulx-Royds of Kelowna (3:20.05).
"Super fun racing at [Silver Star this weekend, happy to end up with [second]," said Bragg on social media. "Congrats to [Proulx-Royds] and [Smart]."
Go down one age group and you'll find two more locals on another podium. raced to silver (3:33.45) and Ruby Wells (3:38.68) took bronze in the girls' 13-14 event, while Arleigh Kemp settled for fourth (3:40.81). Lantzville, B.C. native Piper Graaten emerged on top (3:31.55).
Meanwhile, Pembertonian crossed the line in third in the men's 17-18 expert race (2:43.42). He was joined on the podium by victor Brock Hawes from Sun Peaks (2:39.58) and silver medallist Jon Mozell of North Vancouver (2:43.48).
In the boys' U15, Sebastien Harrisson prevailed as the only rider in his age category to break three minutes (2:57.78). Fellow Pemberton native Cody Kelly was close behind (3:04.34) and Eli Bundy of the United States rounded out the podium (3:05.05). Another Pembertonian, Emmett Guy, was fifth (3:07.68).
