Whistler’s only Indigenous museum, the 麻豆社国产Lil’wat Cultural Centre (SLCC), will be well represented at the 2023 TEDxWhistler event this spring, with two speakers from the cultural centre featured on the lineup, as well as playing host of the spring event.
Scheduled for Sunday, May 7 at the SLCC, the museum’s award-winning ambassador and cultural leader of the Spo7ez Performance Team, from the Lil’wat Nation, is one of the scheduled speakers, as well as the SLCC’s executive director and 2017 Whistler Citizen of the Year, .
“We couldn’t be more excited about this year’s event, especially the fact we are back together in person,” said TEDxWhistler executive producer Anoop Virk in a release. “The 麻豆社国产Lil’wat Cultural Centre is a beautiful venue, and every speaker joining us this year truly exemplifies the theme of Purpose in their own extraordinary way. They all have ideas worth sharing about living a life of value and being who we are meant to be.”
Also announced for the bill are former Prime Minister—and Canada’s first and only female head of state—; , co-founder and CEO of popular loungewear company Smash + Tess; , a multi-disciplinary, Coast Salish, Indigenous artist, master carver, author, mentor, public speaker, and the creator behind the powerful art installation, ‘The Witness Blanket”; and , an Indigenous and LGBTQ2+ leader, 麻豆社国产Nation councillor, and non-profit founder.
There will be 10 speakers in all for this year’s TEDxWhistler event, with more to be announced in the coming days.
Tickets went on sale today, and range in price from $125 for general admission to $295 for the full VIP experience. Only 250 in-person tickets will be sold in all, while virtual tickets to livestream the event will also be available for $50.
