A four-year-old girl has died after drowning on Monday evening in Chilliwack.
At 8 p.m., first responders were called to a report of a drowning at a pond outside the Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre.
The young girl had been pulled from the water by a family member and bystanders started CPR on her.
"Upon arrival, emergency personnel took over life-saving efforts,” says Debbie Sargent, RCMP spokesperson with the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment.
The girl was transported to the hospital where she died.
"Our deepest condolences are with the family and friends of the young child during this heartbreaking time,” says Sargent. "We also extend our gratitude to the bystanders and the first responders who made every effort to save her life."
Victim services has been engaged to support the family at this time. Condolences are being shared on social media.
