An inquiry panel of B.C.’s College of Nurses and Midwives has reprimanded a Surrey nurse for withdrawing her care of a vulnerable patient.
In an April 14 public notice, the college said Kirandeep Khaira was reprimanded to address practice issues that also included failing to attend adequately, or at all, to required medication documentation and other nursing duties.
The panel said Khaira’s conduct was unsatisfactory in respect of the standards set for licensed practical nurses in the areas of:
• documentation;
• duty to provide care;
• medication;
• responsibility and accountability;
• knowledge-based practice;
• client-focused provision of service; and,
• ethical practice.
“These standards set expectations that ensure that nurses practice safely, ethically, and responsibly,” the college said.
It said Khaira has voluntarily agreed to a reprimand and a suspension of their registration for one week and remedial education targeted to address their knowledge gap
“The inquiry committee is satisfied that the terms will address the professional and practice concerns that arose and will protect the public,” the notice said.
