A family is devastated after a teenager was killed by a driver in Langley.
Police in Langley responded to the collision at 264 Street and Fraser Highway at and determined the driver of a commercial truck collided with a pedestrian.
Family members have identified the person struck by the vehicle as James and say he was walking to work when the incident happened.
"While medical aid arrived quickly, his injuries were extensive and sadly he did not survive,” writes Chris Dickson, his cousin.
Langley RCMP and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruct Service (ICARS) were called to investigate. ICARS is responsible for the forensic reconstruction of collisions that result in serious injury or death between Pemberton and Boston Bar.
Since the collision involved a commercial vehicle, the commercial vehicle safety enforcement unit was also investigating the crash.
James had just graduated high school in 2023. He was attending the University of the Fraser Valley in business management and was changing into computer science.
"My aunt and uncle are understandably devastated to have lost their youngest son so suddenly," writes Dickson.
Dickson says James was a charming and engaging young man with a passion for first aid. He was following in the footsteps of his mother, who was a volunteer member of St. John Ambulance.
"He often joined her while volunteering at the Aldergrove Legion,” writes Dickson. "James spent many enjoyable years in Aldergrove Scouts, where his dad was a leader.”
A has been created to support the family and to plan a celebration of life for James. As of Tuesday afternoon, more than $6,000 has been raised with a goal of $5,000.
Police are looking for dash camera footage and witnesses who were travelling in the area at the time of the collision.
