B.C.鈥檚 police watchdog has filed a report with Crown counsel following its investigation into a police-involved collision earlier this year that sent a pedestrian to hospital with serious injuries.
The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. announced Wednesday that the chief civilian director, Ronald MacDonald, had completed his review of the investigation and forwarded a report to the B.C. Prosecution Service for consideration of charges.
At about 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 6, an unmarked Vancouver police vehicle in the area of Knight Street and 20th Avenue. The pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
IIO investigators were dispatched to the scene. The IIO investigates police-related incidents that have resulted in death or serious harm to an individual.
鈥淚n approving charges, B.C. Prosecution Service must be satisfied there is a substantial likelihood of conviction based on the evidence gathered by the IIO and that the prosecution is in the public interest,鈥 the IIO said in a statement.
