Canada's men's soccer team may be headed to Qatar for the 2022 World Cup, but first they're stopping by Vancouver for a game.
For the first time since 2019, the team will be taking the field at BC Place. They'll be playing Curaçao as part of the CONCACAF Nations League A, an international tournament for teams in North America, Central America and the Caribbean.
Hopes are high for the Canadian team which just finished first in World Cup qualifying in the CONCACAF region, beating out heavyweights like the US and Mexico.
Canada has only faced Curaçao once before; in 2017 they beat the small Dutch Caribbean island 2-1 in a friendly match.
The game is a chance for Team Canada to prepare a bit for a much bigger tournament, as they'll be headed to Qatar this winter to play in their first World Cup since 1986. They're assured three games against Belgium, Croatia and Morocco. In 1986, the only other time Canada appeared at the World Cup, they lost all three games and failed to score a goal.
The game will take place on June 9, with kick-off at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets for the game go on sale Saturday, May 14 at 10 a.m. on , though members of the CanadaRED+GOLD fan group will have access to tickets starting May 12. CanadaRED+WHITE members will have access later the same day, while CanadaRED members will get access on May 13.
