District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services members attended to a fire burning next to the Main Street on-ramp to the Ironworkers Memorial Second Narrows Crossing during morning rush hour.

District crews closed the on-ramp and rerouted traffic while they turned their hoses on the blaze, which was burning in a small wooden building just south of the on-ramp.

Former District of North Vancouver council member Mathew Bond captured video of the smoke and fire just after 8 a.m. Thursday.

“I was waiting to turn left at the intersection of Main and Mountain and a series of fire trucks came through the intersection. I rode up towards the bridge and could see the smoke billowing out of the structure,” he said. “It looked like an abandoned site office for the old landfill site in the corner. The fire trucks had the on-ramp and sidewalk blocked and were laying out their hoses.”

The on-ramp was reopened as of 9 a.m. The fire department did not immediately respond to a request for details.
